A video consultation is a purely digital conversation between doctor and patient, without any accompanying medical examination or specialist staff on site.
A teleconsultation (also called a digital visit or televisit), on the other hand, additionally includes a medically supervised remote examination using telemedicine devices. A nurse or medical assistant measures vital parameters such as blood pressure, ECG, or temperature and transmits the data to the treating physician in real time – enabling informed, location-independent decision-making.
This form of remote treatment is particularly suitable for teleconsultations in hospitals, for example, to quickly obtain a second opinion from specialists – especially in hospitals with limited on-site medical staff.
During every teleconsultation in the hospital, the attending physician bears full responsibility for diagnosis and treatment decisions. The participating professionals (e.g., nurses or medical assistants) are responsible for the correct implementation of delegated measures.
