Here, you will find an overview of exciting projects funded by the National Association of Statutory Health Insurance Funds (GKV‑Spitzenverband), as well as funding programmes in Baden‑Wuerttemberg, whose stories and experiences we are pleased to share with you.
As part of the GKV‑Spitzenverband’s pilot programme for the evaluation of telecare solutions, we are involved in several nationwide projects aimed at advancing care delivery through digital, efficient, and people‑centred approaches.
Project Lead: Prof. Dr. med. Jörg Christian Brokmann, RWTH Aachen University Hospital
Project Duration: 01 June 2024 – 31 August 2025
The CareConnect project is being implemented in two nursing care facilities in Aachen to evaluate how digital technologies can provide targeted support to nursing staff in their daily work. The aim is to establish a reliable system for telecare and remote diagnostics, enabling medical consultations and examinations to be carried out directly within the nursing home without the need to transport residents.
The project utilises our TeleDoc‑Mobile, which not only provides secure video and audio communication with physicians and healthcare professionals but also includes additional diagnostic tools such as a digital stethoscope, ECG, and specialised examination cameras for the mouth and ears. This allows routine medical issues to be addressed more quickly while improving the overall quality of care.
A key component of the project is the close collaboration with nursing staff. Care professionals actively contribute to the implementation process, test various use cases, and help ensure that the technology is integrated effectively into everyday care workflows.

Project Duration: 01 July 2024 – 30 September 2025
In Trier, a new model is being tested to digitally support collaboration between care assistants and qualified nursing professionals. Using the TeleDoc‑Mobile, care staff can consult nursing experts directly whenever required, in a manner similar to a physician teleconsultation. The goal is to make nursing expertise readily available without requiring qualified nursing professionals to be physically present on site.
Through video-based collaboration, the project aims to maintain and enhance the quality of nursing care while improving workforce efficiency. This reduces travel and movement within the facility, relieves pressure on staff, and strengthens professional expertise across the care team. Digital support is also intended to simplify and improve communication and documentation throughout the care process.
The system is being tested at St. Irminen Residential and Nursing Home in Trier, a long-term residential care facility with 135 residents.

The existing platform is being further developed, while the care network’s databases are being adapted and integrated accordingly. At the same time, healthcare providers on site are receiving training. This is followed by a statewide rollout across Lower Saxony, during which telecare interactions are conducted and documented via the platform. The third phase focuses on evaluation, including user acceptance among families and healthcare professionals, as well as the impact on care delivery practices.
