Professor Rolf Rossaint, a co-founder of Docs in Clouds, got the initial idea in 2004: Could telemedicine/telehealth be used to optimize processes for German emergency medical services, ensure quality of service, and improve the deployment of medical personnel? After 10 years of R&D, the telemedical rescue assistant system was conceived, and it has been an integral part of the local emergency services of Aachen since 2014. Until November 2020 we helped this system to success together with umlaut AG in a joint venture called "umlaut telehealthcare".
Although our primary focus was directed toward emergency medicine, we are not confined to this field anymore. Currently, our company is organized into three business units: Telecare (focuses on telemedicine for nursing and medical care), Medical Engineering Services and Innovation (Research & Development). Because biomedical engineering is a multidisciplinary field, our team includes both physicians and engineers, which work hand in hand. This interaction allows us to develop products and provide services that fit the current market need. Our physicians contribute with medical input; in addition, they are aware of the current clinical weaknesses and needs. Our engineers, in turn, develop solutions combining technical knowledge, innovation, creativity and practicality. What drives us: Bringing medical care to people, faster and more effectively!
Despite of the medical background, our products do not necessarily need to be applied in the medical field. In fact, they can be translated to other areas. This is the case of the TeleExpert system: specialists can offer prompt support anywhere in the world. Within this context, project costs, operational costs, and more importantly, time can be saved.
Each of our team members is unique, but everyone works towards our common vision. Interdisciplinary skillsets allow us to tackle the challenge of transforming visions into ideas, ideas into concepts, and concepts into products tailored to our customers' needs.

What People Say
"As initiator and ideas provider of the TeleDoc system, I actively promote the deployment of the system into a comprehensive network to benefit the German emergency medical services as whole. But I also see much potential in using this system to relieve local medical practices through teleconsultation."
"Docs in Clouds always proves to be a reliable research and development partner for innovative medical research projects by providing new ideas and hands-on solutions to various problems in deploying eHealth."
"The wellbeing of my patients is my primary concern. Because of various time constraints, I often cannot attend to various house calls. Through the usage of Docs in Clouds systems, I hope to provide better and sustainable medical supervision, e.g., in senior citizens' homes and nursing homes."
"For me, telemedicine is a great opportunity to avert stressful situations for nursing staff. Unlike in the hospital, there is no doctor on site in the everyday care of the elderly. The responsible nursing staff is often in conflict concerning medical questions: Do I have to call the emergency doctor now? Is the medical emergency service enough? Or I can wait until tomorrow and ask the family doctor? Thanks to telemedicine, a doctor can be consulted immediately. The psychological burden and pressure on the caregiver can be significantly reduced and the job satisfaction increased. We also hope the number of hospital admissions we have received so far can be reduced even further."
"The use of telemedicine in our facilities not only helps to improve medical care for our residents, but also presents us as an innovative and pioneering employer. Last but not least this also helps us with personnel recruiting."
